Established in 2016, this international prize recognises works that combine technical excellence, artistic quality and innovation, whilst helping to advance contemporary craft practices. Inspired by the origins of LOEWE, which was founded in 1846 as a collective of craftspeople, the prize aims to highlight the role of craftsmanship in contemporary culture.

The winner will receive a prize of €50,000, whilst an exhibition featuring the shortlisted works will be organised in Europe in spring 2027.

An award that recognises both design and fashion

Contrary to what its name might suggest, the Craft Prize is not limited to traditional craft disciplines. It will be of particular interest to designers whose practice is based on experimentation with materials, mastery of a specific craft, and a critical reflection on manufacturing processes.

Entries may cover disciplines as varied as product design, textile design, fashion and accessories, ceramics, glass, metal, leather, wood, paper, jewellery or any other form falling within the applied arts.

For fashion designers, the prize offers an opportunity to highlight approaches in which clothing, textiles or accessories serve as a medium for artisanal, technical or material-based research.

For designers, it recognises objects that breathe new life into existing craft traditions and explore new forms of expression through materials.

Why apply?

Beyond the financial reward, the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize offers a rare opportunity for visibility within an international network comprising professionals from the worlds of design, culture, museums, architecture and contemporary creation.

Each year, a committee of experts selects 30 finalists, whose works are showcased in an international exhibition and a dedicated catalogue. The winner is then chosen by a jury comprising leading figures from the worlds of design, architecture and museums.

For designers and fashion designers from Wallonia-Brussels, this opportunity enables them to:

  • increase their international visibility;
  • showcase their exceptional craftsmanship;
  • gain recognition for their innovative approach amongst leading professionals;
  • join an international community of creators who are helping to shape the future of contemporary craftsmanship.
