As part of the Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture programme, a call for applications is open for individual mobility grants. This scheme is relevant for designers, design studios, fashion designers and associated professionals who wish to develop international collaborations in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture programme is designed to encourage creative exchanges between Sub-Saharan Africa and Europe.

A grant designed to support creative and collaborative processes

These grants can support a wide variety of objectives that are essential to the design and fashion sector:

  • research and exploration of new practices, for example around innovative materials, local expertise or sustainable approaches;
  • co-creation or development of a project with an international partner;
  • participation in residencies, creative incubators or professional programmes related to design and fashion;
  • development of collections or prototypes in a collaborative setting;
  • participation in cultural events or applied research formats useful for the evolution of the practice.

Each project must demonstrate a clear creative objective and an authentic partnership in the destination country.

Who is it for?

The call is open to individual artists, creative and cultural workers, curators and researchers from all creative disciplines, including designers, design studios, fashion designers, curators, researchers and other related professionals.

Both emerging and established profiles are encouraged to apply, making the grant particularly attractive to young studios or brands in the process of international growth.

Africa-Europe focused mobility

The mobility programmes supported focus in particular on Africa-Europe exchanges and travel within the African continent, with a strong emphasis on sustainable collaborations and long-term professional networks.

This framework is interesting for designers wishing to explore new creative ecosystems, draw inspiration from specific techniques or crafts, or consider transdisciplinary projects.

Full funding

Grants cover:

  • travel expenses,
  • accommodation,
  • per diems,
  • direct project-related costs.

Additional funding is available for:

  • family responsibilities,
  • accessibility needs,
  • lower environmental impact travel options.
