The French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici is launching a call for ambitious projects for the interior redesign of its historic pavilions and the creation of a line of furniture, as part of the ‘Re-enchanting the Villa Medici’ programme.
Designers, architects and craftspeople are invited to contribute to this iconic transformation of heritage.

What ?
The projects concern the pavilions designed by architect Jacques Carlu in the 1950s to accommodate residents (artists, researchers, creators) staying at the Villa Medici with their families.
- Interior design: the aim is to select two projects to renovate two sets of pavilions. Proposals must include a significant contribution from craft professionals.
- Creation of a furniture line: the aim is to design a modular furniture line to furnish the nine pavilions. The prototypes will be produced by the Manufactures Nationales and may be manufactured.
Who is this call for proposals aimed at?
This call for proposals is aimed at professionals in the fields of design, interior architecture and crafts, with proven experience and an appreciation of the dialogue between heritage and contemporary creation. It is open to French-speaking candidates, regardless of nationality.
Participating in this project offers designers international visibility by associating themselves with the French Academy in Rome, while showcasing their expertise in an exceptional heritage setting. They will have the opportunity to design custom spaces and furniture for unique pavilions, integrating functionality, aesthetics and history.
This project also benefits from strong institutional support, notably from the French Ministry of Culture and the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation, guaranteeing concrete resources and significant professional recognition.
