Gioia Seghers : a collection which evokes peaceful and suspended moments Fashion - 25 September 2014
Inspired by the paintings of Georgia O'Keeffe -and her fascination with Lake George in the Adirondack region- Gioia Seghers' new collection evokes peaceful and suspended moments, which conjure up faded and cherished memories. With an emphasis on craft, tailoring and her signature eyelets, she develops the notion of an ideal wardrobe, using embellishment in a graphic and innovative way. Her signature ribbons appear on a lightweight fishnet tank, echoing the time spent adorning beloved clothes. Her jackets and pants are fluid and elegant, from a deluxe short kimono in woolen crepe to a striking trench coat trimmed with large eyelets. Referencing the words of Alphonse de Lamartine and his romantic poetry, Seghers offers a contrasted palette, hovering between the dark shades of night -mainly black, navy blue- and more assertive tones, such as bright red or pure white. Working with natural fibers, like silk, cotton, linen and lambskin, the designer gives a substantial feel to everyday separates, encouraging the wearer to come up with creative pairings. Naively charming, a broderie anglaise skirt evokes a graceful and fragile femininity, without renouncing the strength of seduction. Seghers' airy and loose garments are balanced with tough black leather and menswear-inspired pieces, expressing her profound duality as a woman.
